Obama says, yes we can to rail

Watch President Obama outline his vision for high speed rail. He blends the need for a low carbon future with job creating infrastructure development.

"Now, all of you know this is not some fanciful, pie-in-the-sky vision of the future. It is now. It is happening right now. It's been happening for decades. The problem is it's been happening elsewhere, not here."

Could our leaders get inspiration from Obama's vision?

I still find it incredible that our leaders, both state and federal, seem to be focused on building roads. These are not just freeways to traffic jams, but a oneway street to more greenhouse gas pollution. When will they realise that there is simultaneously jobs, green benefits and better transport in rail investment? Only as the ballot axe falls, maybe?

Can't believe that you want a comment on Obama's belated thinking: "Yes we can to rail"! Americans wouldn't know what a bus, train, tram looked like - they are so addictedto SUVs and Hummers & other such fancy vehicles! OK he may mean to just bypass all "old" forms of public transport and zoom straight out in "high speed rail"!! We in Australia don't need inspiration from Obama's - or any other USA "smart" person's "fanciful, pie-in-the-sky vision of the future"! We burned our fingers on their "financial expertise"(?)- remember??
